Lampang Geological Museum is a fossil, geology and natural history museum established by the Department of Mineral Resources for the purpose of publishing geological and fossil knowledge in the northern region of Thailand. The identity of museum is the research centre of Cenozoic mammal fossils discovered abundantly in northern Thailand. Mae Moh basin, in particular, is a large Tertiary basin of the middle Miocene age with an almost 1-kilometre thickness of sediment deposits. The basin provides the largest lignite supply in Thailand, as well as plenty of mammal fossils such as Gomphotheriums, Gaindatheriums, Amphicyonidaes, Cervidaes, and Tarsiers.
