Chong Yen is the last accessible point by car, approximately 28 kilometers from the national park office, approximately 1,340 meters above sea level. The name “Chong Yen” comes from the terrain of the plain between Khun Nam Yen Mountain and Thanon Thong Chai Mountain Range, which is a windy mountain pass and is moist all year round. The average temperature is below 20 degrees Celsius. From late July to mid-August, photographers and birdwatchers from all over the country gather without prior arrangement to see the beauty of the “Red-necked Hornbill”, a bird considered a symbol of the montane rainforest, which is rare and near extinction in Thailand. It can only be found in lush montane rainforests. It is also home to many species of birds, making it an important birdwatching site with a 360-degree viewpoint. There are bungalows and a camping ground at Chong Yen, but you must bring your own equipment: a plastic tent, a jacket, insect repellent lotion, and a bag for throwing away trash, a lantern or flashlight, because electricity is available from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Since there is no electricity, solar energy is used from solar cells.
