The Metro Forest Learning Centre by PTT Reforestation and Ecosystem Institute was established as an ecological forest learning centre, depicting Bangkok’s original forest in the past. It is the first forest that PTT has developed from the previously successful reforestation project of an area of one million Rai. PTT has transformed the denuded area of 12 Rais on the Sukhaphiban 2 Road in the Prawet district, consisting of over 270 native and rare plant species, into an ecotourism spot by applying PTT’s reforestation knowledge along with Dr. Akira Miyawaki’s theory of growing an ecological forest. This became an opportunity for young generations of Bangkok inhabitants to be closely acquainted with nature without having to travel far from home, and to raise awareness of sustainable conservation of natural resources. Highlights 1) Forest Area – A reforestation area designed as an "Ecological Forest," meaning a man-made forest that closely resembles a natural forest ecosystem. 2) Rammed Earth Wall – the sensation of 'viewing the sky through layers of earth.' The surrounding buildings are constructed from compressed soil, arranged in layers resembling natural soil. These structures are not only aesthetically pleasing but also provide thermal insulation, contributing to energy efficiency and environmental sustainability." 3) Seed Exhibition – Learning an exhibition that shows a variety of seeds planted in the Metro Forest Learning Centre. 4) Exhibition Hall - The Exhibitions of the impacts caused by the reduction of green spaces in urban areas, while reflecting on the ecological richness of the past that was vital to humanity, along with PTT's principles for ecological restoration, all aimed at raising awareness of the value of forests. 5) Mini Theatre – A short film lasting 12 minutes tells the story of ‘Helping Hands,' an inspiration to increase the number of green spaces. We believe that little hands together can create a ‘forest’. 6) Green Roof – A rooftop garden with approximately 50 cm of soil, planted with ground cover plants, serves as thermal insulation for the building, while camouflaging the structure to blend harmoniously with the surrounding forest ecosystem. 7) Skywalk – A skywalk designed for learning, allowing visitors to explore the tree canopy without disturbing the forest ecosystem below. The walkway gradually rises from 1 to 10 meters, offering over 200 meters of natural beauty. 8) Observation Tower – 23-meter-high observation tower with a 360-degree view of Metro Forest and the panoramic views extending up to 5 kilometres.
